I have been a server manager for more than a year at hscorp gaming community and what I learned is that you need to be always motivated, keep updating the server and keep adding new features to entertain players and keep them happy on your servers.
You can add new features to your Minecraft server through Bukkit server package and its plugins. Bukkit API has a lot of developers who are still working on plugins and ideas.
So, this blog post is all about useful plugins for Minecraft server management.
World guard is a powerful plugin. It allows you to create regions, allow/deny certain things and events in that region. Give ownership of those regions and much much more. It provides minimal world grief protection (fire spreed, wither damag, creeper blasts).
World Edit is an easy-to-use but yet very powerful in-game world editor for Minecraft. It allows you to edit worlds or regions easily. You can create/remove/replace thousands of blocks in just few clicks with this plugin.
It is useful for creating spawn points, arenas and huge builds where you need to place a lot of base blocks.
Vault is a Permissions, Chat, & Economy API which is used by many other plugins. This plugin itself doesn't provide any functionality for you but for other plugins.
Essentials provides more than 150 commands for admins, players and server. Some useful commands are /sethome /spawn /back /tp /kill and many more. This is a must have plugin for any server manager. Spigot is providing an updated essentials plugin which works with latest spigot servers.
PermissionsEx is one of the best permissions plugin available. It provides much more deeper control of the permissions, more than Essential's permissions plugin.
GriefPrevention is a all in one anti-grief plugin for any Minecraft server. Its my personal favorite and best anti-grief plugin. It provides complete grief protection, there is no way players can destroy or damage land which is owned by someone. It even provides nature restore and much more features. A must have plugin for survival servers!
Authme Reloaded provides a 2nd layer of protection by letting users register themselves on the servers with a password. This allows users every time they connect to use the password to login and play, otherwise they get kicked out of the server. This is also good for those servers which are cracked and are not supporting premium minecraft accounts.
WorldBorder is a world management plugin which allows you to create borders for your worlds. If you want your players restricted to 1000 block away from spawn then you can create a world border for that world. They support multiple worlds and provides permissions for bypassing the border for vips or admins.
